Play time can happen any time, at least for one pair of bear cubs.
The duo was spotted having a nighttime romp in a California yard, taking full advantage of some man-made devices.
Pioneer, California resident Patricia Hobbs captured footage of the cubs on a CCTV camera in her yard on July 23.
“I checked [my cameras] and saw the bear cubs playing on our ninja course that we have up for our grandkids,” Hobbs told Storyful.
“The one cub really enjoyed the swing. The other one was looking back saying come on let’s go,” she added.
What to do if you spot a bear
Bear encounters can be quite common, especially with black bears, where there have been more than 46,000 human-black bear interactions recorded by the International Association for Bear Research and Management since 2022.

Here are some of the National Park Services' top tips:
- Talk in a low, steady voice and do not scream or otherwise act suddenly.
- Make yourself appear as large as possible.
- If the bear is stationary, move away slowly and sideways while maintaining sight on the bear and avoid tripping. Moving sideways is non-threatening to bears.
- Travel in groups and pick up small children upon sighting a bear.
- If you encounter a bear in your own yard, do not leave the house. Ensure everyone is secure inside before banging pots or making other loud noises to scare the bear away.
- If you see cubs, be extra cautious. Mother bears are very protective of their young. Do not approach, touch or interact with cubs.
