HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Police in Huntsville fatally shot a man after he allegedly fired a weapon at a fleeing woman, state officials said.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation on Monday identified the deceased man as Naimmikal Wayne Sanders, 38, of Decatur, Alabama.
The state law enforcement agency said in a statement that officers responding to a domestic violence report on Saturday encountered Sanders, who fired a gun at a fleeing woman.
“The officer returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect,” the statement said. Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene.
The state agency said it is reviewing the shooting at the request of the Huntsville Police Department. The findings will be turned over to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
